We found the expert help of Erich Technical Support to repair the mileage counter of our Volvo...
Volvo's are for life, as we all know, and our Volvo 850, vintage 1995, amply proves the point. It runs virtually faultless, requiring hardly anything more than regular maintenance. Of course, it does not escape the typical weaknesses of the model, as is a mileage counter which will unvariably cease its service during the long life of a Volvo 850.
The mileage and speedo unit was quickly dismantled by our expert...
The unit is very costly to replace, so we sought the help of a true expert which made a faultless repair... Just read further!

Here one clearly sees the minute orange plastic toothed wheel which needed replacement...
We found the good services of Erich Technical Support, located in Jan van Eyckhof 52, 4907 MA Oosterhout. The mileage counter stops functioning because of a faulty plastic toothed wheel. Our specialist replaces this with an identical wheel, but this time made out of brass. The repair involves of course dismantling the dashboard, of which one finds all the detailed instructions on the website of our specialist, www.ets1.nl.
Frans Erich showed us the dismantled instrument cluster, together with the mileage counter. We photographed for you here the minute plastic wheel, which in the photo above our specialist holds in his left hand, and its brass replacement, see photo below.
We just show you also the lens cap of our camera to show you how small the wheel actually is...
But our specialist does not merely limit the repair to simply replacing the counter and then leaving the mileage unchanged. "These cars will talk to you, electronically" he smiled. "Thus I will read out the actual mileage driven with your Volvo until this repair, so this mileage can be added to the indicated value on the stopped counter. " So our specialist did, and we were very pleased to see that now the full mileage history of our Volvo remains intact and complete.
But there was still more: as an icing on the cake, Frans Erich also calibrated our speedometer, up to speeds of 200 km/h. So now it is good to know that a speed of 120 km/h actually reads 125 km/h on the speedometer.
So now we are driving again happily with our Volvo, literally clocking up the kilometres...with a professional repair that set us back a very reasonable sum, a repair which also included dismantling and installing dashboard and the counter again of course.
So much more...
Repairing a mileage counter is certainly not the only thing Frans Erich can do for your Volvo. We just name a few, like repairing the counters/instruments on the Volvo 140/240, 740/940, repair of the ECU unit of your ABS system, etc. we invite you to take a look at his website!
