Literally a powerful star on the Brussels Show: the V12 AMG 65 Mercedes SL...
We are very fond of the more compact auto shows. They are able to give you that bespoke, personal, tailor made experience, responding ideally to what you like and want to see about cars.
We tell you here in several parts what we did enjoy on this Show, and made it for us so worthwhile and valuable.

Mercedes unfolds sportiness and offroad adventure...
Mercedes presented its GLS range in Brussels...
The manufacturer with the three pointed star was our first call, as their press conference on the show is always a harbinger of very interesting news and premieres.
This time they showed in Brussels the AMG-engined version of the "new generation" SL, and also the new GLS for the first time to the Belgian public.
The novelty on the Brussels show is the SL 65, with the 5980 cc 12 cylinder in V engine, developing 463 kW and a whopping 1000 Nm of torque. The GLS can be considered the “S Class” amongst the SUV’s, and sporting souls can also find adventure here with the AMG GLS 63 4Matic version. It has the revised AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-TRONIC box which puts the 430 kW through to the four wheels…
Last but not least, we had the occasion to meet the new CEO of Mercedes-Benz Belgium Luxembourg en Managing Director for Mercedes-Benz Cars, Dr. Eberhard Kern.
Not present at the show "in the flesh", but displayed on large screens was of course the new E Class, which will be the big novelty and the most important car for Mercedes this year.
There was also some interesting news from Smart, and in the good tradition we photographed these new Smart products with charming female presence, this time one of the hostesses was so kind to help us here.
New is indeed an "open air" or cabrio version of the smart fortwo and also a "tailor made" Brabus version, where literally everything,
from the colour of the stitching threads to the quality of leather or any details in the cabin or bodywork, can be suited to your personal taste.
New is also the extended warranty Mercedes and Smart is offering on their cars. Mercedes guarantees its products now for four years and/or 250.000 km, a Smart owner benefits of the same four year guarantee, but only up to a mileage of 75.000 km.
Sales of Smart have been rocketing in the Belgian market, with an increase in the last 12 months of not less than 100,9 pct.
There is of course a lot more to come on this Brussels show, so stay tuned for further Salon reports…
