There are quite a few roomy versatile 'people' transporters on the market, and one could think they are rather predictable in terms of what they have to offer. Until this Ford came along. It truly surprised us with its comfort, performance, build quality, pleasant cruising abilities and last but not least its space: literally lots of it...

The boxy shape of this Ford tells you already that you can expect some living space in this Tourneo, and indeed, you are not disappointed. The version we tested offers seating for 7 adults. If you don't use the rear bench and simply fold it down, you have a cavernous luggage space of more than 1000 litres at your disposal.
The second row of seats can be folded down in 60/40 split and can either be tumbled forward or removed altogether. This then gives you a maximum load space of 2,761 litres. Need we say more?
We put it to very good use on a trip to France, where we could also enjoy the excellent cruising abilities of this Ford.
And what a good voyager it is. Getting into the car lets you slide comfortably behind the wheel, and one quickly finds an ideal seating position. Commands are well positioned and easy at hand, and clearly the vast experience of Ford shows here.
The Tourneo Connect is based on the Ford Transit Connect and light commercial vehicles with excellent driveability and creature comfort are just the thing for Ford. Thousands of users just love it, and we were no exception.
Cabin styling is also quite pleasant. The used materials are rather rugged, easy to clean, just what one needs in a family-oriented people carrier.
We tested the car in the top level Titanium equipment version, with cornering lights, two zone airco, cruise control and limiter, an excellent audio with 6 speakers, CD and USB, and last but not least a pleasant panoramic roof, just to mention the most important items.
The visibility is excellent, and one feels also very much at home in the car in dense urban traffic. Gearbox and clutch are smooth, and the 1,6 litre Duratorq TDCi engine produces up to 115 hp or 86 kW and 270 Nm of torque. This engine suits the Tourneo very well, delivering lively performance, and altogether excellent pulling power from low revs. The Tourneo never feels underpowered, and is not noisy either. Quite refined, on the contrary, with very forgiving flexibility, so you do not have to use the gears all the time.
Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h goes in 14.1 seconds, maximum speed is 165 km/h. The Tourneo is astonishingly frugal with EPA noticed fuel economy of 4,9l/100km (58 mpg) in combined driving, CO2 emissions are 130g/km
The cruise control proved very useful on long motorway trips...
Road behaviour and overall handling is quite good, the seven seater version is indeed very stable and well balanced at speed, the Tourneo takes long, fast curves very well in its stride. This makes the Tourneo an excellent companion on long motorway trips, and it is able to travel distances with speed and comfort, or, space and pace…
Even with the third row of seats upright, one still has useable luggage space...
If you are looking for a nice family/people car with vast amounts of space, very good comfort, nicely equipped and very frugal, than this Grand Tourneo Connect is certainly worth a long, thorough look. You will be agreeably surprised, as we were…
